The LFC Retail Christmas campaign targets gift buyers and fans alike. It was important that the campaign had a feel-good factor and would be a piece of content that the fans were proud of and wanted to share.

LCF put forward Ricky & Sue and asked us to come up with a creative concept that was built around them, combining both video and photography.

Whilst the photography would showcase the products, the video would engage the fans.

The Strategy

The 60-second festive spot adds a light-hearted, twist to a classic Christmas Eve bedtime story – where LFC and the spirit of Christmas harmoniously unite. 

As a young LFC supporter drifts off to sleep, she dreams of her favourite players sharing Christmas traditions together in a home wonderfully adorned with LFC merchandise.

We drafted in lifelong LFC fans Ricky Tomlinson and Sue Johnston, to star alongside LFC players Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Rachael Laws and Gemma Bonner. 

Liverpool legend John Aldridge makes a cameo appearance too, singing the 1988 Anfield Rap.

From creative ideation and scriptwriting to set, talent management and a shoot at our Knowsley film studio, we orchestrated the multi-platform campaign that had fans calling Ricky Tomlinson and Darwin Nunez ‘the comedy duo we didn’t know we needed.’

The Results

The campaign has already been a massive hit with fans – being dubbed “better than John Lewis” and attracting regional and national media attention. Behind the scenes footage alone has generated more than one million organic social media views.
