Mazuma Mobile, the UK’s leading online mobile phone reuse company, were looking for a creative and production partner to create a new series of TV commercials that clearly communicated their range of technology recycling services.
They were keen to see ‘Maz’ brought to life in a real-world environment through CGI and wanted a creative and fun concept and rationale his appearance.
It was also important that the ads highlighted the range different tech products that could be recycled to support key messaging.
Our approach started by giving Maz, Mazuma’s lovable character a makeover, giving him more personality and texture through more sophisticated 3D animation than he had appeared on screen in previously.
Small changes like changing his mitten-like hands to fingers, gave Max the ability to point and press buttons, opening up a world of opportunities for him to interact with technology in an advert focussed around electronic devices.
Knowing that Mazuma also wanted to run a twelve month campaign, we were keen to maximise the amount of content that could be gained from one shoot. This required upfront planning of multiple scenes set in multiple seasons, but made the campaign more cost effective for the client and maximised the number of deliverables.
The project resulted in a series of four live action TV commercials (including a Christmas ad) featuring the new upgraded Maz in the starring role and supported by a package of digital assets.
